Nest of Evil / Castlevania Leaks & Rumors Discussion
« Last post by Alucard on July 12, 2023, 02:53:51 PM »
With Konami seemingly coming back full-force to the PC and console gaming industry, there have been a lot of rumors about potential projects circulating the web. Now that two of their three keystone franchises— Silent Hill and Metal Gear— have received major announcements, it seems that Castlevania may be due to get its time in the spotlight soon enough.

Already there have been several leaks: Konami is apparently working on something called "Project Zircon", which many have speculated may be a new Castlevania game, since zircon is an item that can be sold for money most notably in Symphony of the Night. Also, before E3 was cancelled, some gaming news reporters claimed that Konami had been planning to reveal a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and a new Castlevania game. It also seems that Evil Empire, the developers behind the hit indie game Dead Cells, have been given the rights to make new games for two "really massive" video game IPs. Taking into consideration the Return to Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells, it seems that Castlevania might be one of them.

In terms of speculation about what this alleged new Castlevania game might play like, I have seen rumors that the gameplay would take inspiration from FromSoftware's games, specifically Bloodborne. People also believe that this game may be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

As for my personal thoughts on these rumors, I'm most excited about and betting the most on Evil Empire making a new Castlevania game. I love Dead Cells, and Return to Castlevania was seriously fun. I absolutely trust them to take the helm on this franchise. And since they've already worked with the IP before, I think the rumors are well within the realm of possibility.

With Bloodborne-vania, I am..... much less enthused. It's not that I think the two series are incompatible or anything, I've seen plenty of people call Bloodborne "3D Castlevania", and hell, everyone and their dog has been adding "Soulslike combat" to their indie Metroidvanias ever since Hollow Knight became a massive hit. It's just that...... I dunno, the idea of Castlevania done in the style of a FromSoft game gives me the impression that Konami wants to take the series in a more "serious" direction. The Netflix show has already soured the concept of "dark and gritty Castlevania" in my mind, and I don't want that to be the future of the franchise. And it (potentially) being a PS5 exclusive...... Yeah, I think I'll pass.

But I dunno, those are just my thoughts. Maybe I'll end up eating my words and Bloodborne-vania will end up being a smash hit that brings the Castlevania games back into the spotlight after so many years. Or maybe all of these "leaks" are total bullshit, and the series is still dead in the water.

How do you guys feel about all of this?

If you appreciate what the Royal Chapel Castlevania Archive does and want to help keep it up and running, I humbly as that you consider supporting me— Kieran, the site's webmaster— financially.

I know that most people these days are used to a cost-free internet— I am, too— but the truth is that running this site is a fairly big expense for me, especially as a college student who isn't making a lot of money. I don't want to have to run advertisements on my page, so I'm asking for voluntary donations instead.

And to be clear, this is not me trying to turn this site into a source of revenue. I'm just looking to cover the costs of server fees, domain renewal, etc. so that my passion project doesn't turn into a financial burden.

If you want to help me out, you can donate to my Ko-Fi. The choice is up to you whether you want to donate or not, but I would greatly appreciate it if you did.

Thank you very much,

Marble Gallery / Marble Gallery Rules

  • No NSFW content. And mind you, I'm not just talking about explicit porn. If you would get in trouble if your boss saw you looking at it, don't post it.
  • No underage/incest shipping. By that I mean adult/child pairings and sibling/parent/cousin incest. None of that two-year-age-gap, "sibling-coded" bullshit that modern fandom loves to write thesis-length callout posts for. The one exception to this is Soma x Arikado/Alucard, for personal discomfort reasons.
  • No ship bashing or headcanon policing. One of the many beauties of fandom is the diversity of interpretations between fans. I have nothing against civil debate, nor do I believe that all readings of a work are "valid", but simply disagreeing with someone doesn't automatically make them wrong. You are not the arbiter of fanon, so don't act like it.
  • No reposting other people's works. If you want to show off something that someone else made, you can share a link to it. "Credit to the artist" isn't giving proper credit, sorry.
Rules / Forum Rules

General Rules
  • No bigotry of any kind, including racism, sexism, ableism, and, especially in the current political climate, homophobia and transphobia. This includes any talk about how "the woke left" or whatever is ruining video games with the gays and transes. There are plenty of other places on the internet where that kind of discussion is more than welcome, and as a member of the LGBT community myself, I'm not going to tolerate it.
  • No trolling, ragebaiting, or any other sort of inflammatory behavior. Don't start fights for the sake of fighting, man. And don't harass people, either. This includes any sort of stalking, insults or belittlement, or any other sort of assholeish behavior targeted at one person.
  • No spam. Double posting once or twice in a thread is okay, but you shouldn't be making tens of dozens of replies in a row. Low-effort content counts as spam, too. If you're going to comment on a thread, make sure you have something worthwhile to say.
  • No illegal content. This includes sharing ROMs or any other means of piracy. I've got nothing against it morally, but I would prefer to avoid any potential run-ins with the law (or worse, Nintendo) that I can.
  • Thread necromancy– it's fine. I'm okay with people reviving dead topics if they have something that they want to add to the discussion. Just don't go around bumping threads all willy-nilly and you'll be golden.

On punishments for rule-breaking
  • I don't do temporary bans. If you prove yourself to be enough of a problem even after being made aware of your inappropriate behavior by moderation, you will be permanently banned from participating in the forum.
  • As an addendum, certain behaviors (such as bigotry, harassment, or malicious spam) will result in you being banned without warning. This works in the opposite direction as well, with non-malicious rule breaks being punished less severely. The rules exist primarily to prevent asshole behavior from flagrant assholes, so as long as you're acting in good faith, there's no need to sweat it.
  • Don't be rude to moderation if you receive a warning. Talking back may be taken as a sign that you lack respect for the rules, which might result in a more severe punishment.
Note: The way that rules are enforced works under the assumption that this forum will remain niche with a small enough membership that I will be able to moderate almost everything on my own. If the amount of members grows to the point where this style of moderation is no longer sustainable, the guidelines will be changed accordingly.
